Solar & Thermal Pool Blankets – Smart, Efficient, Made for NZ Conditions
Solar Blankets
Solar blankets harness the sun’s natural energy to increase and maintain the water temperature in your pool—without ongoing power costs. They’re ideal for extending your swim season and helping to reduce evaporation, chemical loss, and energy use.
Our Soltetgo solar blankets are engineered for NZ conditions and offer a thermal resistance (R) value of 0.067, helping reduce pool heating energy use by up to 70%.
You can choose from two fitting options:
Upgraded Finish
Factory-trimmed and edge-bound for a clean look, these covers include reinforced reel eyelets, boom pockets, and pull-out ropes—making them easier to handle, more durable, and visually refined.
Site Trim
A more budget-friendly option, these oversized bubble sheets are cut on-site to suit your pool’s shape and attached using plastic butterfly clips. A simple solution with lower upfront cost and minimal factory labour.
Thermal Blankets
For serious heat retention, thermal blankets offer the ultimate in performance. Ideal for pools with heat pumps or gas systems, they trap warmth effectively—keeping the water comfortable and swim-ready for longer.
Our premium Duokote thermal blankets feature an R-value of 0.094 sqm K/W, offering outstanding insulation and virtually eliminating evaporation. That means lower heating costs, reduced chemical use, and an eco-friendlier pool.
Like our solar blankets, thermal covers are available in:
- Upgraded Finish – Factory-trimmed and bound with added handling features
- Site Trim Option – Supplied oversized and shaped to fit your pool on-site
No matter the shape or size of your pool, we can provide a custom solution that works for you—and your energy bill.
Saltwater & Mineral Systems – A Softer, Safer Way to Swim
Salt and mineral water systems offer a more natural and comfortable alternative to traditional chlorine pools. At Waikato Spa & Pool, we supply and maintain saltwater chlorinators that improve water quality, reduce maintenance, and create a healthier swim for the whole family.
How Do Saltwater Chlorinators Work?
Saltwater chlorinators use a process called electrolysis to convert dissolved salt into chlorine, which sanitises your pool water. While it’s still technically a chlorine pool, this system avoids the harsh effects of chlorine tablets or powders—providing a gentler, more consistent sanitising solution.
The salt stays in the water and continues to cycle through the system, needing only occasional top-ups after significant rain or water replacement. This creates a low-maintenance, self-regulating sanitation cycle that works in harmony with your pool.
The Benefits of Salt & Mineral Pools
Salt and mineral pools reduce the presence of irritating chloramines—those compounds responsible for red eyes, itchy skin, and strong chlorine smells. This makes them ideal for families, children, and those with sensitive skin or respiratory conditions.
Saltwater leaves your pool water feeling smooth and silky, enhancing the overall swim experience.
With fewer chemical top-ups required and more stable chlorine levels, salt systems are cost-effective and often require less day-to-day maintenance.
Continuous chlorination helps combat harmful microorganisms like E. coli, Giardia, and Cryptosporidium, offering peace of mind and safer swimming—especially important under New Zealand’s Public Pool Water Quality Guidelines.
Unlike chlorine tablets, saltwater systems allow more flexibility in managing stabiliser levels, helping to avoid chlorine lock and extend the effectiveness of your sanitation process.

Saltwater & Mineral Systems. A Softer, Safer, and Smarter Pool Solution for Kiwi Conditions
Why Switch to a Salt or Mineral Pool?
If you’re looking for a healthier, low-maintenance alternative to traditional chlorine systems, a saltwater or mineral pool could be the perfect fit. Our NZ-made systems work with the natural chemistry of your water to provide a safer, more enjoyable swimming experience—without the harsh chemicals.
How It Works?
Saltwater chlorinators use electrolysis to convert salt into chlorine, sanitising your pool continuously. This method mimics the effect of chlorine but is more stable and gentle.
The salt or minerals stay in the pool water and are only topped up after heavy rainfall or water replacement—creating a self-regulating cycle that keeps your pool clean and compliant with NZ Public Pool Water Quality Guidelines.
Key Benefits
- Healthier Water: Reduces exposure to harsh chloramines that cause red eyes, itchy skin, and strong chlorine smells.
